Frequently asked questions

For now, we are working exclusively with Amazon to fulfill orders. As a new publishing house, it is most convenient for us to fulfill our orders solely through Amazon at this time. We are currently planning a migration of the entirety of the catalogue to the Stabat Mater Press website in the near future.

Because of this, anytime you click on “order now” from our website, you will be directed to our Amazon listing. Thank you for your patience!

It’s true, and we’re grateful for their efforts. The revival of out-of-print Catholic texts has been a blessing in an age that has forgotten its own patrimony. In many ways, we were inspired by their work.

But there remains a vast litany of traditional Catholic books—devotional, theological, political—that still lie neglected. And too often, when they are reprinted, they suffer from rushed formatting, generic covers, or straight-from-PDF reproductions that make them feel more like curiosities than living texts.

At Stabat Mater Press, we don’t simply slap a public domain PDF on a print template. Each book is carefully re-typeset, line by line, with an eye toward clarity, elegance, and permanence. The feel is modern where helpful, but the content remains entirely traditional and untouched. We believe these books deserve more than to be preserved—they deserve to be revived.

Never in doctrine, never in intent. We sometimes correct typographical errors, update archaic punctuation, or improve formatting for readability. But we do not “modernize” language to make it more palatable. These texts were written for the soul, not for the market, and we treat them as such.

All of our titles receive an updated cover image and updated typographical work.

Because what came before was not inferior—it was simply discarded. We believe many of the finest Catholic books were printed before the spirit of the world crept into ecclesial life. Our task is not to invent Catholic culture, but to recover it.

Short answer: Yes.

Every Catholic book we publish are traditional by reason of the date of their publication; that is, the majority of our titles are re-prints of out-out-print Catholic works from the early 20th, 19th, 18th centuries and before. Moreover, we ensure before publication that works are faithful to the deposit of faith as it was understood and lived before the confusions of the modern era.

Yes. We welcome original manuscripts that reflect traditional Catholic thought, whether theological, devotional, historical, or political. Please see our About us page for details.
